Dr. Powell has told that video conferencing and traditional phone calls serve as better options for patients who want routine medical care as opposed to a visit to the physician because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The order of the Governor has also allowed FaceTime calls to take place until the state disaster declaration is either finished or uplifted.

How Does Telemedicine Work During COVID-19?

Dr. Powell goes onto explain how a virtual visit with a patient will work.

The patient should expect a text message approximately 30 minutes before the appointment. There will be a link to the appointment in that message. While making office visits, there have to be several guidelines that have to be taken care of. We unnecessarily put patients and healthcare providers both through unwanted risk. With the use of telemedicine, Dr. Powell hopes that we can decrease the intensity of fear amongst Texan residents. 

The medical assistant contacts the patient prior to the appointment. This is done to get a history of the patient. After that, the provider will reach out to the patient within the next five minutes.

However, it is not your healthcare practitioner alone who will be in contact with you during the appointment. You will also be heard by several telehealth technicians that will make sure the appointments run smoothly. These will include behavior analysts, hearing technicians, speech-language specialists, and dyslexia therapists.

Doctor Powell says it is the best time right now to take the best care of your patients. Healthcare providers need to have the best interaction with their patients so that they can come up with the most accurate diagnosis. The Texan Government believes that this procedure of reading out to residents can surely be effective.
